EU on verge of abandoning hope for a viable Palestinian state

Unlike our government, some European governments are publicly expressing in strong terms their displeasure and deep concern with the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Last Monday (1/16/12) the UK's Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg accused Israel of carrying out "deliberate vandalism" by continuing to build settlements on Palestinian land. A recent unpublished internal European report documented the settlement expansion in Area C of the West Bank (which is under direct Israeli control) and its impact on the prospects of a two state solution. This report which was seen by the British newspaper "The Independent" forms the basis for the following article:
